URGENT CARE

Dr Ruth Dunning

Dr. Ruth Dunning, DVM

For Dr. Ruth Dunning, veterinary medicine is a second career. She did not immediately go into veterinary medicine, instead following a career in advertising sales with Condé Nast Magazines. Dr. Dunning returned to school and earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She has a special interest in urgent care, wound repair/soft tissue surgery, infectious disease, and internal medicine. Dr. Dunning is also a shelter advocate and her pets come to her through rescue organizations. LEARN MORE

Dr Yang

Dr. Cassidy Hui-Jung Yang, DVM

Dr. Cassidy Hui-Jung Yang was born in Taiwan and moved to California when she was a teenager. After years of volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center, she earned her veterinary degree from Royal Veterinary College at University of London. Her special interests include feline medicine, emergencies, trauma/wound care, and geriatric medicine. Dr. Yang lives with her husband, a rescue yorkie mix named Archie, and two recently adopted orphan kittens named Maverick and Goose. She looks forward to meeting you and your furry little ones! karen emanuelson dvm 1

Dr. Karen Emmanuelson, DVM

Dr. Emanuelson was inspired by her mother, a small animal, exotic and wildlife veterinarian who built a family hospital in Walnut Creek. Dr. Emanuelson received her degree from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, and completed an internship at The Zoological Society of London, Whipsnade Park, and London Zoo. After returning from the U.K., Dr. Emanuelson was named Director of Veterinary Services at the Oakland Zoo. A lifetime achievement was building the veterinary program there. “Dr. E” is very excited to join the new Urgent Care Service at SAGE! LEARN MORE

Dr Sara Johns

Dr. Sara Johns, DVM, DACVIM

Dr. Sara Johns earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from UC Davis. Following veterinary school, Dr. Johns completed both a small animal rotating medicine and surgery internship as well as a cardiology specialty internship at Washington State University before completing a three-year residency in cardiology at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Johns joined SAGE in 2015 and became board-certified the same year. Outside of work, Dr. Johns enjoys hiking and going to the beach with her dog, a miniature schnauzer. LEARN MORE

Dr Labarbera

Dr. Anthony LaBarbera, DVM

Dr. Anthony LaBarbera is a native of the East Bay. He received his DVM from Cornell University and completed an Emergency/Critical Care-focused rotating internship at Arizona Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Center. Dr. LaBarbera was happy to return to the Bay Area to practice emergency medicine at SAGE. His interests include focused ultrasound, intoxications, and endocrine emergencies. In his free time, Dr. LaBarbera enjoys hanging out with his wife and dog (Mars) who is a cross between a pit bull and a couch potato. LEARN MORE

Dr Lindsay Swirble



Dr. Lindsay Swirble, DVM

Dr. Swirble wanted to be a veterinarian since she was little. She received her DVM from Ross University and completed her clinical rotations at Cornell University. Dr. Swirble loves emergency medicine and the variety of cases she sees. With emergency and critical care services open 24/7, she is happy to provide comfort and availability to pets and their families whenever an emergency arises. When not treating patients, Dr. Swirble enjoys anything outdoors. She also enjoys playing with her dogs’ Puck (Chihuahua mix) and Scruff (Terrier mix). LEARN MORE

Dr. Ryan Beverly

Dr. Ryan Beverly, DVM

Dr. Ryan Beverly became a veterinarian because he finds dogs and cats to be an endless source of love and fun. He received his DVM from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. As an emergency veterinarian, Dr. Beverly enjoys constantly updating and refining his medicine. He finds that helping animals and their people in difficult and unexpected situations is extremely rewarding. When not treating patients, Dr. Beverly enjoys spending time with his wife, son, two 70lb mutts, Goose and Levi, and two cats, Mona and Kevin. LEARN MORE
